2. REQUIREMENTS TO THE OPTICAL AND PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RETROREFLECTIVE MATERIALS.

     Requirements to the retroreflective characteristics of new materials. Before the life testing, retroreflective materials should comply with the requirements specified in Chart 2.

     Measurements are taken according to the methods described in Par. 3.2

     If the coefficients of retroreflection of the material measured at the rotation angles of e=0° and e=90° differ from each other in more than 15%, such a material is called "orientable"

     Coefficient of retroreflection of the orientable retroreflective material should correspond to the values indicated in Chart 2 at two rotation angles specified in Par. 3.2, and cannot be less than 75% of values indicated in this chart at other rotation angles.

3. TESTING METHODS.

     Sample’s Selection and Preparation.

     Samples: Samples are selected randomly from commercial lots of material.

     Sample’s Preparation: Dimensions, form and number of samples are determined by the testing conditions.

     Number of Tests: If not determined otherwise, testing should be performed on one sample that should comply with the specified minimum requirements.

     Samples Hold: Samples are held at the temperature of 20(±2) °С and the relative humidity of 65(±5)% for at least 24 hours. Testing under other conditions are conducted five minutes after the hold.

     Determination of Retroreflective Characteristics.

     Coefficient of retroreflection R' is determined according to the methods described in the CIE N54 Publication from 1982.

     Testing is conducted on the square samples measuring 10х10 cm or on pretested samples with other dimensions.
